As a content-rich site, Expedia has automated much of their content production and delivery in an effort to streamline production and keep costs down. Expedia has used their own content management systems for several years, including the former, Microsoft internal management system, "Interpress". However, as anyone who has implemented a content management system knows, these "out-of-the-box" solutions are created for common website features and often do not account for many, custom needs.

Alki Technology developed "TravCopy" to bridge the gap between Expedia's content management system and their editorial staff by automating many of the tasks surrounding the use of their content management system.

TravCopy was developed mostly for the purpose of moving files throughout the site-building process - from writers to editors to test, stage, production, etc. TravCopy also handled associated tasks such as checking files in and out of Visual Source Safe and interaction with Outlook such as sending propagation request emails, scheduling reminders, etc.
