Information Site for People with Disabilities
Half the Planet
HalfthePlanet.com is a forum where the entire disability community can access reliable services and products, connect with peer support, and keep up with disability-related news and information. Nearly half the planet - an estimated 3 billion people - are affected by disabilities in some way; hence the name of the website.

As a content-rich website with daily updates, Half the Planet had numerous content management needs. Many of those needs were satisfied by Alki Technolgy through the implementation of the Alki Publisher.

The following is a walkthrough of the process of creating a web page with the Alki Publisher.

Creating Pages
First, a user clicks on a "New Page" node in the tree control along the left. In this case, the new page being created is the home page. After clicking on the node, an empty, edit template appears on the right with text fields and image placeholders in the portions of the template that are "editable". Those portions of the page that cannot be edited appear as they will in the finished product.

Editing Pages
The user can save a page at any point during the editing process and return to it for further modification. Text is easily edited by typing directly into the various text fields in the template, or by double-clicking the text fields which expand each field, giving the user a full-screen workspace complete with rich-text editing.

Page elements that are links appear as red text fields. A user can populate these fields by typing directly into the fields, or by dragging an existing page from the tree control into one of these link fields, which will automatically resolve the path to the respective page and populate the link field accordingly.

Images are added to or removed from a page simply by dragging images from the tree control to the various image placeholders in the edit template, as shown below.

Adding images
Once an image is added to a template, it is immediately shown within the flow of the page, allowing the editor to preview images as they are added.

Saving and Previewing
At any point during the page-editing process, the user may choose to save changes to the page, allowing him to preview the completed page.

Finished Product
Upon saving the page, the user sees the page as it will look when it is finally published. Until the page is published, the user may chose to go back and edit the page, in which case the edit template is applied once again and the existing text and links quickly transform back to edit controls.
